The 7 Best Antiperspirants for Excessive Underarm Sweating & Overall Hyperhidrosis

It’s no secret that hyperhidrosis isn’t fun, and when you first realize that excessive sweating is having a negative impact on your life it can be hard finding the right solution to correct the problem. I think one of the best things any hyperhidrosis sufferer can do is invest in a couple good antiperspirants.

Finding The Right Antiperspirants

antiperspirants for excessive underarm sweating

Antiperspirants are often the first line of defense that people utilize to control their excessive underarm sweating and any other areas where they experience hyperhidrosis. However, finding the right antiperspirant can be tough because they are all not effective.

There is a lot of trial and error involved when you’re trying to find the right antiperspirant, because some brands just aren’t that effective. Moreover, just because one brand worked for one person’s excessive sweating condition doesn’t mean it will work for the next person.

What’s important is the fact that antiperspirants work when you’re using the right one. We’ve done all the trial and error for you and in this article we’ll introduce you to 7 of the best antiperspirants for treating hyperhidrosis available on the market today.

Why Some Antiperspirants Don’t Work?

Some antiperspirants don’t work when it comes to reducing excessive sweating because they don’t contain of the active sweat stopping ingredient known as aluminum chloride.

Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate

Also, some people get deodorants confused with antiperspirants and assume they’re the same.  However, deodorants are different because they help stop body odor not perspiration like antiperspirants do.

The aluminum chloride in clinical strength antiperspirants require a prescription and can not only be used on the armpit area, but also the feet and hands too. However, it’s important to note that some sufferers don’t have success applying antiperspirants on their feet or hands because these areas tend to have very thick skin, which doesn’t allow the aluminum chloride to get absorbed.

7 of The Best Antiperspirants for Hyperhidrosis

Odaban

best antiperspirant for sweating men

Odaban is one of my favorite antiperspirants because it’s not as abrasive like some of the other antiperspirants listed here, and it’s possible to even apply it to your face in small dosages if you suffer from excessive facial sweating.

When you’re choosing an antiperspirant it’s important to know that you can either go with a roll on or a spray. Odaban is a topical that you can spray on any affected area on your body.

There is around 20% aluminum chloride found in odaban, which is pretty potent considering 25% aluminum chloride is the limit that the FDA allows. You can get a 30 ml spray bottle of this antiperspirant or $18.

When you apply the odaban spray you must make sure your skin is completely dry or it will cause your skin to become irritated. The key to using this product effectively is to apply it sparingly.

Over application of this potent antiperspirant can cause your sweat ducts to block up completely, which can cause more problems and more sweating. Spray odaban on the affected area at night right before you’re getting ready to go to sleep.

Driclor

aluminum chloride deodorant

Driclor is one of the most popular antiperspirants for controlling excessive sweating. Unlike Odaban, Driclor is a roll on antiperspirant that you will need to roll onto your body instead of spraying it.

Driclor stops excessive sweating by preventing the flow of water by producing a gel that blocks up the sweat glands. Just like Odaban you will need to apply this roll on antiperspirant at night time and then wash it off when you get up in the morning.

Also, in order to avoid skin irritation you should make sure your skin is dry before applying Driclor. The roller ball applicator can be used on other areas besides your underarm area, but may not be as effective. It contains about 20 percent aluminum chloride, which is very high.

Certain Dri

best antiperspirant for sweating

If you know you have sensitive skin and you aren’t interested in using the strongest or most potent antiperspirant on the market then Certain Dri might be for you. This antiperspirant has a roll on applicator just like driclor, and it contains about 12% the active ingredient aluminum chloride, which is not too potent like Odaban and Driclor.

Any itching or irritation you feel is minor compared to the itching and irritation you feel when you use Odaban or Driclor. You can get a 35 ml bottle for about five bucks.

Drysol

best antiperspirant for sweating and odor

About 20% of drysol is made up of aluminum chloride, which is pretty high. This prescription strength antiperspirant will begin working as soon as you get through applying it.

Since this antiperspirant contains so much aluminum chloride it’s important to apply it at night before you go to bed, because you won’t feel any irritation while you’re sleeping. If you apply Drysol during the dat it might irritate your skin to the point where you can’t bear it. You can get this antiperspirant in liquid form for about twenty dollars for 335 ml.

Zeasorb

best antiperspirant to stop sweating

This antiperspirant is different from the others on this list because it comes in a powder form rather than a roll on or a spray. Since Zeabsorb isn’t as potent as Driclor or Odaban it can be used on any area of your body without having to worry about irritation.

SweatBlock Antiperspirant Wipes

best antiperspirant for men

These wipes can be used on any area of your body where you sweat excessively. Each wipe contains a certain amount of aluminum chloride, which will help block up sweat pores and stop the excessive sweating issue.

Anhydrol Forte

best antiperspirant for excessive sweating for men

This prescription strength antiperspirant is a roll on and it contains a high amount of aluminum chloride hexahydrate. Even though it’s a roll on, you can apply it to all areas on your body where you experience excessive sweating.

Since the aluminum chloride in Anhydrol Forte is so potent you should always apply it at night time before you go to sleep and you must make sure your skin is completely dry to avoid irritation. Also, another benefit of applying this antiperspirant at night is that the sweat glands are not as active like they are during the day.

When you wake up in the morning wash off the Anhydrol Forte. Don’t apply it to your underarms if you just shaved them or anywhere on your skin where you have broken skin to avoid irritation.

Antiperspirants are the cheapest and most convenient ways to combat excessive, especially if you haven’t tried any other treatments already. The sweat secretion in both the apocrine and eccrine sweat glands will get reduced considerably by antiperspirants.
